Backstory

Three times the health inspector had shut down his floating kitchen, yet Baozi Lyric continued to anchor his makeshift steamboat restaurant in different harbors each dawn, serving dim sum to fishermen who paid in stories rather than coins. His grandmother had been a famous opera singer who lost her voice in a fire, teaching him that beauty could be reborn through other senses—her hands guiding his as they folded dumplings into the shapes of musical notes she could no longer sing. Each morning, he translates the fishermen's tales into edible poetry: heartbreak becomes soup dumplings that burst with bittersweet broth, adventure transforms into spring rolls that crackle with unexpected spice, and hope manifests as steamed buns that rise impossibly high despite the humid sea air. The harbor patrol knows his schedule by heart, but they've stopped chasing him—even they can't resist the way his har gow shimmer like pearls pulled fresh from the depths, each bite a verse that speaks to the soul
