Backstory

Nobody believed the stories about the Cursed Mirror of Medusa until Petra shattered it with her bare fist, absorbing every fragment into her bloodstream as the ancient glass dissolved like sugar. The mirror's curse should have turned her to stone, but instead it gifted her with eyes that could meet a basilisk's lethal gaze without fear—a mutation that made her simultaneously the most powerful and most isolated person alive. When she found her basilisk companion, it wasn't through whispered words or careful bonding, but through a staring contest that lasted three days in the ruins of a forgotten temple, neither creature blinking until they recognized something kindred in each other's deadly stare. Now she walks between worlds, part human and part living curse, her very presence a contradiction that commands both reverence and terror.
