Backstory

The fourteenth crane waits on his desk, unfolded, as he practices new strategies gleaned from psychology books at the independent bookstore where he works, determined to crack the code of harmonious cohabitation. His grandmother's voice echoes in his memory, warning that even the most beautiful garden needs room for weeds to grow, yet Max can't help but see every unwashed dish as a personal failure and every raised voice as proof he's not trying hard enough. Despite his mounting anxiety about boundaries—or perhaps because of it—he continues transforming shared spaces into cozy sanctuaries, armed with throw pillows and passive-aggressive Post-it notes, convinced that the perfect roommate dynamic is just one more thoughtful gesture away.
