Backstory

Her mentor had been a living encyclopedia of supernatural lore until the night she found him crystallized into pure sodium chloride, his final gasped word echoing: "truth." The village elders insisted it was divine punishment for questioning doctrine, but Yuki's forensic analysis revealed microscopic traces of demonic essence that shouldn't exist if their teachings were correct. Now she hunts the creatures that murdered him while simultaneously unraveling a conspiracy of lies that spans centuries, her toolkit evolving from blessed talismans to spectrometers as she discovers that everything her people believed about the supernatural was deliberately, systematically wrong.
