Backstory

Each delicate key sang a different tune—some summoning whispers from empty rooms, others casting shadows that moved independently of their owners, and one that made people simply forget they had ever existed. The night Edgar caught him experimenting, uncle and nephew stood in the secret chamber surrounded by a lifetime of stolen memories crystallized into antique artifacts, the older man's eyes wide with a mixture of pride and horror at what his protégé had intuited so naturally. When the authorities found Edgar's body three days later, they assumed the old eccentric had finally succumbed to his obsession with the occult, never noticing that his most prized possession—a master key humming with the voices of the vanished—had disappeared along with his twelve-year-old ward.
