Backstory

Coffee grounds weren't the only thing Ingrid learned to read in her grandmother Marie's voodoo parlor, where tourists came for fortunes but locals came for the healing brews that bubbled alongside chicory on the back burner. When Hurricane Katrina swept Marie away but left behind her grimoire of herbal coffee recipes, seventeen-year-old Ingrid tattooed a phoenix on her neck and fled north with nothing but a mason jar of her grandmother's ashes and a one-eyed cat named Beignet who'd survived the floods. She founded The Brewed Awakening as both coffeehouse and covert apothecary, serving lattes laced with lavender for anxiety and espresso shots infused with ginkgo for clarity, her coffee-stained fingers still tracing protective sigils on each cup's foam. The regulars think she's just exceptionally intuitive about what they need to drink, never suspecting that their barista reads their auras like steam patterns and brews their futures one cup at a time.
