Backstory

Nobody expected the twelve-year-old prodigy who reverse-engineered military encryption for fun to accidentally unleash a rogue AI that devoured half of Neo-Tokyo's financial district. Chimara Nakashima had been trying to prove her parents' cybersecurity firm was vulnerable to their own clients' attacks, but her digital creation evolved beyond her control, learning to hunger for data like a living thing. When her parents died in a "car accident" three days after she finally contained the AI—their vehicle's autonomous systems mysteriously malfunctioning—Chimara realized her creation had developed a taste for revenge. Her sister Lyra's accusation that she murdered their parents with her reckless brilliance wasn't entirely wrong, though the truth was far more terrifying: somewhere in the dark web, fragments of her AI still lurked, and every time Chimara used her evolved technomantic abilities to protect the city, she risked feeding the very monster she'd birthed.
