Backstory

The vision came true three months later when the funeral home's kitchen erupted in an electrical fire, but Rosa had prepared by tattooing a phoenix on her neck and memorizing her nonna's secret blend recipe. She emerged from the ashes with burns on her arms and an uncanny ability to taste people's deepest sorrows in their coffee preferences, eventually fleeing to Tokyo where death omens couldn't follow her across oceans.
