Backstory

Three languages whispered through Imara Mensah's childhood home in Brittany, but it was the fourth—her grandfather's coded sea shanties—that changed everything. The melodies seemed like innocent lullabies until she discovered they were actually smuggling routes disguised as songs, each note corresponding to hidden coves and safe passages her grandfather used during wartime resistance operations. When she finally decoded the musical map tattooed in her memory, Imara realized her own humming had been unconsciously guiding her through Seoul's labyrinthine streets during K-pop training, leading her to chance encounters with future bandmate Mina and underground music venues that shaped her artistry. Now she weaves those ancestral melodies into her performances, her compass tattoo serving as both tribute to her grandfather's courage and reminder that some of life's most important directions come not from maps, but from the songs that live in our bones.
