Backstory

Three impossible things happened the night Nova's brother vanished: every clock in their Parisian clockmaker's shop stopped at 11:47, Lucien aged thirty years in thirty seconds before dissolving into golden light, and their grandfather's "broken" pocket watch began ticking for the first time since 1847. She spent twelve years deciphering the temporal equations carved into the watch's inner casing, equations that matched the symbols tattooed along Lucien's spine—marks she'd assumed were birthmarks until that final, horrifying moment. The watch didn't just measure time; it was a key, and when Nova finally activated it in 1905, she discovered her family hadn't been clockmakers for generations—they'd been time shepherds, and something in the chronostream had been hunting them. Now she follows Lucien's temporal signature across centuries, each jump revealing that his disappearance wasn't random but part of a war she never knew existed.
