Backstory

Three days before the world cracked open, Elena Rodriguez was teaching orphaned kids how to laugh again through her underground comedy shows in abandoned subway tunnels, earning the nickname "Raven" for how she'd swoop in to rescue runaways from the streets. When the catastrophic quakes hit during one of her performances, she threw herself over her younger sister Lyra as the tunnel ceiling collapsed, but in the chaos of their rescue and subsequent raids on survivor camps, they were torn apart by different evacuation groups. Now Raven's signature laughter has become both her weapon and her lifeline—a sound so distinctively joyful that other survivors either flee in terror, thinking she's lost her mind, or gravitate toward her like moths to flame. She carries a battered microphone from her old shows alongside that tattered photograph of Lyra, sometimes whispering jokes into it like prayers, hoping her sister might somehow hear her voice carried on the wind.
