Backstory

That final painting she never finished became his obsession, leading him to recreate it in thousands of tiny doodles across textbook margins, each attempt a silent apology for the theft that preceded her death. His photographic memory for birthdays developed as penance, a way to celebrate others while deliberately obscuring his own—the anniversary of both his greatest shame and deepest loss.
