Backstory

His grandfather's pocket watch had been rigged with microscopic probability engines, a secret the old man took to his grave along with the manual for controlling them. When Luc finally cracked the watch's true purpose, he'd already used its chaotic predictions to build an empire of calculated disasters, each "lucky guess" about market crashes and natural catastrophes funded by his guilt over the winners he'd stolen.
