Backstory
Nobody expected the royal locksmith's daughter to hear the dead whispering through keyholes, but Zara Colombo had been translating their metal-muffled secrets since childhood. When plague swept through the capital and claimed her entire family, she discovered that their legendary key collection wasn't just for opening doors—each ornate piece was a conduit to specific souls, forged by her ancestors who had served as both locksmiths and covert necromancers for generations. The surviving court wizards branded her a dangerous heretic when she openly communed with the deceased nobility through their personal keys, forcing her to flee with only her inherited collection and the forbidden knowledge carved into her bones. Now she wanders from crypt to castle, trading her unique services to those desperate enough to pay her price: one new key, willingly given, to add another voice to her ever-growing chorus of the dead.
