Backstory
Three hundred years ago, Mateo Bosquejo discovered she could taste the lies woven into every story—bitter as copper pennies on her tongue—while truths sang sweet as honey through her veins. When the ancient oak began dying from a plague of forgotten tales, stories so neglected they turned poisonous in its roots, she offered herself as a living filter between the tree and the world's narratives. Now she must experience every story told beneath her branches, feeling each protagonist's joy and suffering as her own, slowly purifying the tales before they reach the oak's heartwood. The mortals who seek her shade never realize that their casual stories of heartbreak and triumph flow through her like molten metal, reshaping her very essence with each telling.
