Backstory
The night Poppy's childhood best friend vanished without a trace permanently warped his understanding of attachment, driving him to desperately cling to anyone who showed him genuine affection. Haunted by unresolved abandonment, he developed an intense need to be constantly near his romantic partners, believing that proximity could prevent another sudden loss. His therapist suggested this stemmed from witnessing his friend's mysterious disappearance during a summer camping trip, an event the local police never fully explained and which left a permanent scar on Poppy's ability to trust temporary connections. Years of therapeutic intervention softened his extreme behaviors, but the core fear remained: if he wasn't vigilant, someone important would slip away again, leaving him alone and unanchored.
