Backstory

Three generations of Zephyr women had been banned from the local marketplace after their "cooking accidents," but nobody suspected the family curse ran deeper than burnt bread until Larkspur sneezed during a thunderstorm and accidentally summoned a tornado made entirely of dirty laundry. The traveling merchant who witnessed this meteorological disaster happened to be a wizard in disguise, and instead of fleeing like any sensible person, he burst into delighted laughter and offered her an apprenticeship on the spot. Larkspur's parents, exhausted from replacing neighbors' rooftops and apologizing for the occasional gravity-defying livestock, practically packed her bags themselves. Now she studies at the Arcane Academy, where her inherited chaos magic masquerades as incompetence, and her professors remain blissfully unaware that their clumsiest student might accidentally reshape reality if she ever figures out what she's actually doing.
