Backstory

Three ivory chess pieces carved from wolf bone sit behind the bar of The Howling Wolf—the only remnants of Amani's former life as a military tactician before a classified mission in the Carpathian Mountains went catastrophically wrong. The transformation that saved his life from enemy gunfire also cost him his commission, his identity, and his humanity, leaving him to drift until he discovered that Old Man Grimsby's will contained a peculiar clause: the tavern would belong to "the first wolf who could solve the riddle of the bleeding moon." Amani's tactical mind cracked the cryptic puzzle within hours, but the real mystery emerged when he realized Grimsby had been orchestrating a sanctuary for supernatural outcasts decades before his death.
