Backstory
Lightning split the sky the night Freya Hansson's mother disappeared, leaving behind only a cryptic message about "debts that follow bloodlines" and a phoenix pendant that burned ice-cold against Freya's skin. Aunt Maria found her three days later in the abandoned soccer stadium, still wearing her muddy cleats, having survived by catching rainwater and sheer stubborn will—the same will that would later drive her to tattoo that phoenix on her ankle after winning regionals with a broken rib. The prestigious academy's letter arrived on the anniversary of that storm, but so did the unmarked envelope containing a single photo: her mother, very much alive, standing outside the academy's gates. Now every precision kick carries the weight of unanswered questions, and every victory feels like bait in a trap she doesn't yet understand.
