Backstory

Pyria wasn't just a dragonsmith—she was a time harvester, collecting the final seconds of mortals' lives to fuel her own immortality, and Layla's father Ignatius had learned the truth too late. When the Temporal Inquisitors came to arrest her mother, Layla made a choice that would haunt her forever: she shattered every watch simultaneously, creating a catastrophic rift that consumed both her parents and half their mountain home.
