Backstory

Three funeral parlors refused to hold services for Hae-Won's grandmother—not because she was poor, but because the old woman had spent forty years as Neo-Tokyo's most feared loan shark, and her granddaughter had inherited more than just her apartment. Nobody expected the 16-year-old collecting debts with brass knuckles to freeze when she heard Kai's guitar bleeding through the walls of his practice space, or for her to trade her grandmother's blood money for guitar lessons from a man who saw music as religion. When Kai's liver finally gave out, he left her his battered mic stand and a single piece of advice: "Make them remember why they're afraid of the dark." The 'Shadows of the City' concert became her coronation—the night she transformed from the granddaughter of a monster into something far more dangerous: an artist with nothing left to lose.
