Backstory

Three copper bells chimed the evacuation alarm as Leila Abebe realized her father's "mining expedition" was actually a desperate search for the legendary Compass of Echoes—a pre-war navigation device rumored to reveal not just direction, but the emotional residue of every soul who had passed through a location. When the nuclear winter began and her younger sister Lyra vanished during the chaos, Leila inherited both her father's obsession and his cryptic journal filled with acoustic maps that chart the wasteland's "emotional geography." Now she wanders with that same mystical compass, following the faint psychic trails of grief, hope, and memory that crisscross the dead earth, believing that strong enough love leaves a path even death cannot erase. The beast's claw that scarred her left cheek came not from defending herself, but from protecting the compass when she discovered it could sense Lyra's lingering presence—and something else was hunting that same trail.
