Backstory

Three months before the fire, Siena discovered she could hear the whispers trapped inside antique keys—fragments of conversations from their previous owners that leaked out like steam from old radiators. Her grandmother Edna had warned her about the family gift, how it skipped generations and drove her great-aunt mad, but Siena couldn't resist collecting every key that sang to her with its buried secrets. The night the antique shop burned, taking Edna's life and scrambling Siena's memories like radio static, the only thing that remained clear was the cacophony of voices from her key collection—hundreds of strangers' memories perfectly preserved while her own dissolved into smoke. Now she inherits lost objects that find their way to her desk, each one carrying someone else's intact past, while she hums discordant melodies to drown out the whispers that remind her of everything she can no longer remember about herself.
