Backstory

Nobody expected the boy to stay after the funeral, but Li Wei couldn't abandon the legacy of gears and grease that pulsed through his veins like blood. When flying shrapnel from a malfunctioning steam engine claimed his left eye three months later, he simply adjusted his goggles and kept working, his remaining vision sharper than ever for spotting treasure in the ruins. Stray dogs began following him through the skeletal remains of New Orleans, drawn to his quiet understanding of abandonment, while his grandfather's hand-drawn map—marked with cryptic symbols only Li Wei could decipher—guided him to forgotten caches of mechanical wonders waiting for resurrection.
