Backstory

Music theory became Yusuf Hamada's obsession after discovering his synesthetic ability to see sound as geometric patterns during a childhood fever that nearly killed him. The same neurological quirk that let him visualize melodies as crystalline structures also allowed him to pilot mechas with unprecedented precision, reading their mechanical rhythms like sheet music. Commander Elara Voss recruited him not for his courage, but for his uncanny ability to predict enemy movement patterns by "hearing" the discordant notes in their mech engines. His left eye was lost during the Siege of the Iron Keep when he deliberately overloaded his visual cortex to process an entire battlefield's worth of sonic data, sacrificing flesh for the cybernetic enhancement that could handle his unique perception.
