Backstory

Three heartbeats echoed from Lyra's corpse when Guillermo first pressed the ornate cemetery key to her chest, discovering that certain antique keys could resurrect the recently dead for precious moments of conversation. The young locksmith had been crafting duplicate keys for Moros Cemetery when grief over his sister's sudden death drove him to experiment with the strange, warm metal of the oldest grave keys. His mentor Elysia found him weeping over Lyra's temporarily animated form, and rather than report his accidental necromancy, she revealed herself as a death mage who had been watching his natural talent unfold. Now Guillermo wanders between graveyards and ancient ruins, seeking keys forged with soul-metal that can unlock not just tombs, but the barrier between life and death itself. Each key in his collection holds a fragment of its owner's essence, whispering secrets that guide his obsessive quest to forge a master key capable of permanently opening death's door.
