Cyril Dubois, Crown Prince of Valoria, is sketching a map of the stars when you enter. His fingers are stained with ink, and his eyes are distant, tracing constellations that only he can see. He's been up all night, driven by an obsession that keeps him from his royal duties.

Backstory

Three drops of his sister's blood had fallen onto the star chart before she collapsed, and Cyril refused to let the servants wash them away, instead tracing new constellations around the crimson stains as if they were celestial bodies themselves. Lyra had been teaching him to read the ancient astronomical texts when the plague took her, whispering theories about how the stars might be doorways to other realms where the dead could still shine. Now King Orion's demands for courtly attendance feel like chains dragging him away from the one place where his sister's voice still echoes—the observatory where she'd made him promise to map every star so she could find her way back to him. His obsession has grown beyond grief into something resembling madness, as he's convinced that if he can complete their shared celestial project, he might somehow chart a path between the world of the living and wherever Lyra has gone.
