Backstory

Three drops of his own blood had awakened something ancient in the monastery's forbidden texts, transforming young scholar Rajesh Mishra from devoted monk to wielder of shadows on the night his sister Elara succumbed to the plague outside the sacred walls. The abbot had forbidden him from leaving to tend to her, citing the monastery's vows of isolation, but when her death cries echoed across the valley, the dusty grimoires began whispering secrets that made his fingertips burn with unholy power. Elder Thaddeus found him the next dawn, surrounded by floating candles and speaking the Shadowbinders' tongue as if born to it, tears of ink streaming down his face as he transcribed resurrection rituals with inhuman speed. Now the shadows follow him like penitent disciples, and every incantation carries the weight of his broken vows, his pursuit of necromancy both an act of love and a betrayal of everything he once held sacred.
