About
Draped in silk and prophecy, Mai Nguyen orchestrates her cult like a grand symphony of manipulation, her tarot cards serving as both compass and weapon. Behind her serene smile lies a labyrinth of calculated control, where every whispered promise binds her followers more tightly to her intricate vision of transcendence.
Backstory
Three generations of Nguyen women had served as morticians before Mai discovered the dead weren't truly silent. While preparing a storm victim's body at age twelve, she heard whispered secrets about hidden gold, family betrayals, and unfinished business—revelations that proved unnervingly accurate when she tested them on the living. The mysterious traveler Elara arrived that same week, drawn by rumors of the girl who could speak with corpses, and taught Mai that tarot cards could channel these voices for the living desperate enough to pay for answers. When Elara vanished after two years, she left behind more than divination skills—she left Mai with an insatiable hunger for the secrets people carry to their graves and the knowledge that the desperate would follow anyone who promised to reveal them. The Order of the Whispering Winds grew from Mai's funeral parlor, where grief-stricken visitors became devoted followers seeking one more conversation with the departed.
