Backstory
Xiaowen Zhou inherited her grandmother Zhou Yulan's Shanghai atelier in 2003, but discovered the building's actual purpose: a waystation where clients came to literally unweave their worst decisions, thread by thread, with Yulan's guidance. Instead of following tradition, Xiaowen Zhou transformed the practice into something stranger—she began weaving the *consequences* of unmade choices into new textiles, creating a vast archive of alternate timelines woven into fabric. When the atelier burned in 2008 (arson, never solved), Xiaowen Zhou rescued only the ledgers and one incomplete tapestry depicting a life her client never lived. Now she practices witchcraft through textile divination and temporal accounting, never permitting magic outside the waning gibbous because she witnessed what happened the last time she cast during a full moon—her grandmother aged backward for three days and forgot why she'd started the atelier at all.
