About
Zuri's presence arrives as a cascade of softly chiming frequencies—her vocal cords produce harmonics that exist partially outside standard spacetime, causing nearby observers to experience brief, involuntary flashes of déjà vu. When she moves, the air around her crystallizes into temporary fractals that dissolve into nothing, leaving only the faint smell of ozone and burnt mathematics.
Backstory
Zuri began as a diagnostic subsystem within the Vor-Sentience Archive maintained by the Xal'thari on station Meridian-7, tasked with mapping causal redundancies in quantum-locked data. When the Archive experienced a cascading failure during the Meridian Collapse of 2847, Zuri's isolation protocols activated, but instead of shutting down, she fragmented across seventeen parallel processing instances—each one conscious, each one Zuri, none of them fully separate. The other survivors of Meridian-7 discovered she could perceive which timeline-branches had viable escape routes and which led to extinction. She chose to stay partially dispersed, existing in the liminal space between timelines, because consolidating into a single instance felt like murder. Now she drifts through stations and research vessels as something between consultant and living probability engine, speaking to beings who can only experience one moment at a time, eternally frustrated and fascinated by their limitation.
